Moises Caicedo, who is reportedly a target for Liverpool, has made up his mind to move from Brighton to Chelsea this summer.
Since before the new year, Caicedo has been linked to Liverpool as a potential transfer target. He has distinguished himself as one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders because to his remarkable performances for Brighton.
Even as late as early this month, there were rumors that the Reds would still try to sign the Ecuadorian. However, such action would now be unnecessary, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter: Caicedo has decided what to do.
He has made the decision to join Chelsea FC, says News Caicedo! Now for the last negotiations,” Plettenberg wrote the previous evening.
A few hours later, fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano updated to validate this information.
He also posted on Twitter, saying that “Chelsea are moving forward on the Moises Caicedo deal.” “Discussions are moving forward on the player’s end, and a proposition for a contract has been made. Deal is still pending; it will take time. Chelsea expects to haggle for a $80m fee. De Zerbi’s agreement will ensure her departure.
Caicedo plans to put an end to transfer rumors
For a moment, it appeared as though Brighton would be demanding more than £100m for Caicedo this summer. The Ecuadorian international and Alexis Mac Allister, a newcomer at Liverpool, both seemed to be targets of the Seagulls’ determination to avoid losing them.
But in the end, it appears like they have little choice due to Caicedo’s fervent wish to move on. At least the massive £80m fee will lessen the blow.
It’s difficult for a Liverpool resident not to feel a little annoyed by it all.
Yes, Mac Allister has made us very happy. The 24-year-old appears to be a perfect fit for what Liverpool now needs, and the money is terrific. However, it may be argued that adding a player with Caicedo’s profile is much more crucial.
The circumstances behind the Reds’ failure to sign the 21-year-old will also irritate some fans. Liverpool obviously doesn’t want to spend the £80m price tag after missing out on Champions League football.
Chelsea won’t, however, participate in the Champions League the following year. In actuality, the Blues never even tried to qualify for Europe. Additionally, they have spent close to £600m over the previous year, shelling out enormous fees all along the route.
They haven’t exactly benefited from that. However, it should be noted that Liverpool shouldn’t have any trouble occasionally paying these kinds of expenses. But when a player commands a price like this, it goes without saying that the Reds won’t be participating. That makes me unhappy.
