Liverpool’s star Trent Alexander-Arnold appeared to be a Reds transfer target after putting in a brilliant performance for England in midfield against Malta.
At Anfield, where he often controls play from right back, England manager Gareth Southgate hinted before kickoff that he would use Alexander-Arnold in midfield as many have requested. The recent graduate of the Liverpool academy passed the test with flying colors, contributing to the Three Lions’ first and third goals in addition to scoring a thunderous own goal for the second.
The more perceptive Liverpool supporters noticed that OGC Nice player Khephren Thuram had ‘liked’ a post on Instagram praising Alexander-Arnold’s performance as the crowd waxed poetic about his outstanding technical ability at full time.
Since the end of last season, the Reds have been said to be interested in signing Thuram, and the Frenchman’s social media activities won’t do anything to dispel those rumors.
Thuram has been’seduced’ by Liverpool’s long-term strategy for his development after talks between the two parties, according to French source L’Equipe, but he may find it challenging to try to leave Nice this summer.
Thuram is just one of many who were in awe of Alexander-Arnold’s skillful midfield performance, as was previously noted. The 24-year-old’s goal was equally stunning, as he curled his lovely right-footed strike from outside the box and past Henry Bonello in the Malta goal in a manner reminiscent of many of his Reds club goals.
Alexander-Arnold was questioned after the game about how he thought his 90 minutes in the new role went.
“I’m not sure. According to him, I may perhaps play more midfield, he told Channel 4. Although I haven’t played it much, it feels cozy. I’ll admit that it feels natural. I can see myself having fun there. I want to make sure that my name is consistently listed on the team sheet, and today was a solid starting point.
The talented player, who was born in Liverpool, continued, “Hopefully, I am one of those guys that can be used in a variety of places. Where I play doesn’t matter to me as long as I play. Regardless of the position I’m playing, I’ll give it my all to help the team win.
“With regard to England, the manager has always attempted to find a way to include me in the squad, but given the caliber of the players who fill those positions, it has proven to be challenging. I believe the part I’ve been playing in club football is a fresh approach. Still early in the game, only one match. But it’s crucial that I seize the chance when I have it.
