Trent Alexander-Arnold has acknowledged that as long as he is playing for Gareth Southgate’s team, he is willing to play wherever for England.
In England’s 4-0 victory over Malta on Friday, the Liverpool star was given a midfield role by Southgate. He made the most of the opportunity with an outstanding performance in the win.
Before he scored himself with a speculative effort from the edge of the box, it was his deft pass that helped England get the game started in Valletta.
It was a performance worthy of the number 10 on the back of his shirt, which he transitioned into this season for Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold was asked about the new job in an interview with Channel 4 following the game, and he said he was at ease in it.
Despite the fact that I haven’t played it much yet, it feels natural and comfortable, and I enjoy playing there. the 24-year-old said.
I can see myself having fun there. For me, it’s about joining this squad and attempting to be a consistent name on the roster. A solid foundation was laid today.
If he had been used in a midfield three, Southgate would undoubtedly have had to make some choices about his England team’s preparation for the Euros next summer as well as for Monday’s match against North Macedonia.
Alexander is keen to clarify that he doesn’t care where he plays as long as Southgate’s team is involved, though.
I hope to be a versatile player who can play a variety of positions. You appear on team sheets and receive playing time as a result. He kept talking.
“I don’t really care where I play as long as I’m there, give it my all, make plays, score goals, and contribute defensively.” No matter what position I play, I’ll give it everything I’ve got in an effort to win the game.
Alexander-Arnold’s struggles to break into the England team have received a lot of attention, despite the manager having a variety of choices for his normal right-back position.
Although Southgate has frequently preferred to rely on Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, and Reece James in that right-back position, the Liverpool player thinks his England coach has always made an effort to make room for him.
I always believe the manager has attempted to find a method to include me in the England team, the player continued. Additionally, it has been challenging to find players of the caliber I play in.
The role I’ve been playing in club football has given me a path, and I’m hoping it’s one he can take and one he wants to take frequently. One game remains, so it’s still early. I need to make sure I seize my opportunities when they come my way.
England, which has now won three straight games in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, added goals from the penalty spot by Harry Kane and then Callum Wilson in the second half.
