The 27-year-old actor opened up about his struggles to achieve sobriety and revealed how difficult it was for him when he felt enslaved to alcohol.

While guesting on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, Holland revealed his stories of being an alcoholic.

“I, like many Brits, had a very, very drunk December 2021. At Christmas, I was on vacation, I drank a lot, and I can always drink a lot,” he said, quoted from Pinkvilla, Wednesday (12/7/2023).

A month later in January 2022, he tried to challenge himself not to drink for 2 months. Apparently, the period was very difficult for him.

“All I can think about is drinking. That’s all I can think about. I wake up thinking about it. I check the time, when is it 12 at night?” he said again.

Holland thought if he would punish himself with two months without drinking, then he would be able to prove to himself that he didn’t actually have an alcohol problem.

“Two months on and I’m still struggling. I feel like I can’t socialize,” she said.

Fortunately, during those 2 months, he managed not to touch the forbidden drink. As a result, he later extended his drinking ban to 6 months.

“By the time of June 1st, I was the happiest person I’ve ever been in my life. I could sleep better. I could handle things better. Things went wrong on set, which used to make me angry, I got take my steps. I have better mental clarity. I feel healthier, I feel fitter,” Holland said.

Quitting drinking, Tom Holland achieves sobriety and benefits. Finally, he wondered why he didn’t stop sooner.

“I just said to myself, like, Why? Why am I enslaved by this drink? Why am I so obsessed with the thought of drinking this?” he said.

As a result, he succeeded in making his mother proud because he was free from alcohol. “He loves it, and it’s great. I can’t believe the difference I feel from not drinking. Yes, I feel great,” she said.
