The MCU’s Spider-Man and Venom 3 have a significant link, according to a new set video from the film.
The third episode of the Tom Hardy-starring series has just begun filming in Cartagena, Columbia, and the first pictures from the set feature decorations for the Day of the Dead.
The film appears to begin directly after the events of Let There Be Carnage, with the titular anti-hero on the run following his confrontation with Cletus Kasady, according to another video taken of Hardy on the set.
Eddie Brock played by Tom Hardy is abruptly transferred from his reality to the MCU at the end of Venom’s sequel while unwinding at a remote resort thanks to Doctor Strange’s errant spell. In the post-credits sequence of Spider-Man: No Way Home, he only stays there for a short while before being sent back to his own timeline.
Venom is Clad in a Recognizable Look
A recent set video from Venom 3 showed a significant MCU Spider-Man connection that will continue into the threequel, thanks to Twitter user Almupg80.
The unimportant element in question is the t-shirt Eddy Brock, played by Tom Hardy, is sporting.
For those looking close enough, one might notice that the shirt matches what the character wore in the post-credits tags for both Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, specifically the “The City” logo from the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
This attire suggests that Venom 3 will be set immediately after the events of No Way Home, when Eddie is zapped back into his home universe:
Tom Hardy also shared a photo on Instagram from the production, which provides another small glimpse at the shirt in question:
Will Venom 3 Feature the Multiverse?
Sadly, Venom 3 is not expected to feature Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in any way. There is still no proof that Tom Hardy will actually meet the webhead of the MCU, despite numerous teasers.
After all, if something that significant were featured in the film, the news would have most likely have spread online by now.
But since the movie appears to begin just after the No Way Home post-credits, it will be difficult for the movie to avoid addressing the Multiversal elephant in the room.
Perhaps the Multiverse aspects of the character will be more prominent this time around given his recent experience. Perhaps Sony was bringing up Venom’s Multiversal hivemind for reasons other than just No Way Home.
If Sony wants its Venom to engage with a Spider-Man version that is not under the control of Marvel Studios, alternate realities may also be the best course of action.
The current target date for the release of Venom 3 is October 2024.
