Uncharted fans, rejoice: a sequel to the 2022 video game adaption may be in the works!
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter about Oppenheimer, legendary film producer Charles Roven revealed that Uncharted 2 is still in the works.
When asked if there was still a desire to make the sequel, Roven replied, “Oh absolutely! We had a great time watching that movie. The film was well received by both aficionados and those unfamiliar with the game. So we’ll absolutely be making another one of those.”
Sony has yet to officially confirm a sequel to the adventure film, while Sony Chairman Tom Rothman did name Uncharted “a brand-new franchise” in May 2022 (via Deadline) following the film’s excellent box office run.
Tom Holland took center stage in the first film as the beloved PlayStation hero Nathan Drake. After being recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (played by Mark Wahlberg), the pair embark on a globetrotting, action-packed adventure in search of a $5 billion treasure trove lost by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan over 500 years ago.

Despite receiving a mixed reaction from critics (the picture now has a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), Uncharted performed well with audiences and grossed over $400 million worldwide.
If Uncharted 2 is greenlit, it could be a while until it hits theaters, since star Tom Holland is presently taking a hiatus from acting after his most recent film, the Apple TV Plus exclusive drama The Crowded Room.
At the very least, we have a few ideas of what Uncharted 2 will focus on, thanks to Uncharted’s two post-credits scenes, which teased what’s to come.
One introduced Nathan’s brother, Sam, who was alive and being kept in a prison cell (similar to the events of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End), into the conflict in a post-credits sequence. In the second scene, we saw Nathan Drake getting ready to make a deal with Gage (played by Game of Thrones actor Pilou Asbaek), turning over his ring in return for an old Nazi treasure map. Sully and Nate gain the upper hand in the fight, but when they depart, they are forced to surrender to an unknown individual.
Uncharted is available for rent or purchase on digital marketplaces such as Prime Video, and it can also be streamed on NOW in the UK. Check out our guide to the new movies coming out this year for additional information on everything that’s new.
