Tom Holland dresses down for lunch in a purple sweatshirt… after expressing plans to focus on his mental health

Tom Holland was spotted wearing a purple sweatshirt as he arrived for lunch at il Buco in the East Village on Tuesday, only days after announcing his retirement from social media.

Just days after claiming that Instagram and Twitter are ‘detrimental’ to his mental health, the Spider-Man star, 26, appeared to be relaxing with friends at the celebrity hangout.

He wore his large hoodie with a plain black t-shirt, light-wash pants, and fashionable sneakers with blue and yellow highlights for his casual outing.

On Saturday, the actor revealed he would stepping away from his social media platforms and has deleted Twitter from his phone.

‘Hi guys. So I’ve been trying to make this video for about an hour now, and for someone that has spent that last 13, 14 years, however long I’ve been acting…I cannot seem to say what I need to say without ‘um-ing’ and ‘ah-ing’ every five minutes, so I’m gonna try again,’ he began.

Holland continued: ‘I have taken a break from social media for my mental health, because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming, I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately, it’s very detrimental to my mental state, so I decided to take a step back and delete the app.’

Alongside the video, Tom wrote a post encouraging his fans to donate to the charity Stem4 which supports positive mental health in teenagers.

He wrote: ‘Hello and goodbye… I have been taking a break from social media for my mental health, but felt compelled to come on here to talk about Stem4.

‘Stem4 is one of the many charities The Brothers Trust is extremely proud to support – and I’d like to take a moment to shine a light on their fantastic work. The actor has a significant social media following, with over 67 million followers on Instagram alone.

Tom is presently in New York filming his new show The Crowded Room, in which he plays Danny Sullivan opposite co-star Sasha Lane.

The Crowded Room ‘is an anthology series that will explore inspirational stories of folks who have fought with mental illness and learnt to live successfully with it,’ according to Deadline.

Season one will consist of ten episodes and is based on the life of writer and producer Akiva Goldsman as well as portions of Daniel Keyes’ memoir The Minds of Billy Milligan.

The performer will play Danny, a figure based on Milligan who was the first person to be acquitted of a crime owing to mental illness.
