Tom Holland has spoken about coming to terms with the increased media coverage of his private life, admitting that he doesn’t ‘enjoy living in the spotlight’.
In a new interview, the Spider-Man and Avengers star admitted to being pictured with a female friend during this year’s BST concert series in London’s Hyde Park.
Following the publication of the photos, the woman’s name and Instagram account were revealed, which Holland regards as an infringement of her privacy.
‘It’s just, I’m a very private person. If you do a Google search, I’m not a tabloid person. I don’t like living in the spotlight,’ he told GQ.
‘I’m quite good at only being in the spotlight when I need to be… it just was a bit of a shock to the system.’
Holland said that the experience left him not wanting to ‘put myself in that situation again’.
‘For me, it’s a reflection of a life that I don’t live,’ the 23-year-old continued. ‘And I like my private life, I like my friends, I like going out.
‘I was just, “Whoa, what is going on here?” And it was just a little stressful.
‘You know, it was a wake-up of, like: “This is what your life is now. So just be wary.”‘
Holland did, however, mention a network of renowned friends he could turn to for help in dealing with such situations, including Spider-Man co-star Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The young actor stated that he could trust in them because they were more experienced in similar situations.
The tabloid spotlight hasn’t been Holland’s only challenge recently, with the future of Spider-Man still in doubt following Sony’s split with Disney over the franchise’s rights.
Holland, on the other hand, is certain that Sony’s’safe hands’ will steer the franchise through the upheaval.
