The Dune press tour’s attire goes above and above expectations, as one might expect

There was a lot of enthusiasm when the movie Dune was first hinted at in the B.C. (before COVID-19) years. The reimagining of a well-loved science fiction epic was eagerly awaited, but for those who love fashion, the movie offered an image that was almost too beautiful to be true: the red carpet tour and “moments” of fashion that stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya would undoubtedly experience before its release.

Among their many other skills, Zendaya and Chalamet are also adept at dressing well. Known for his ability to style oneself, Chalamet is not afraid to defy expectations when it comes to menswear and dress rules. He has popularized the unique cuts of French designer Haider Ackermann and replaced traditional black-tie attire with Louis Vuitton harnesses and Prada boiler suits. Regarding Zendaya’s red carpet history, it’s hard to know where to begin, but some of the first images that spring to mind are the 3D-sculpted bodices by Tom Ford, the Valentino gowns that were modeled after Cher, and the classic Versace showstoppers.

The two performers were naturally determined not to let a chance like this one pass them by, especially following a two-year hiatus from live performances. And the fashion victories have been rolling in ahead of Dune’s year-end release.

Arriving at the Venice Film Festival in new-season Valentino Haute Couture, Zendaya made an initial impression just hours before she wore a wet-look Balmain at the film’s premiere that matched the color of a real sand dune. From then on, she’s worn a two-piece from designer Pieter Mulier’s inaugural collection for Alaïa, which brought back memories of cling fabric-clad supermodels on the brand’s ’90s runways, and a grey cotton Loewe dress with a sequin front, worn just days after it debuted at the brand’s spring/summer ’22 show.

With regard to her well-known love for Australian designers, Zendaya once again represented the country’s fashion scene in Venice by selecting a cutout ensemble by local designer Dion Lee for a private dinner (her longtime stylist, Law Roach, posted a video of the event on his social media).

In terms of style, Chalamet has also been contributing, but we didn’t anticipate any less. On the red carpet, the actor sported a broad-shouldered Haider Ackermann suit with a delicate glittery finish to go with Zendaya’s leather Balmain outfit. His most recent outfit, a blue Stella McCartney decorated with flowers, was a nice contrast to his co-star’s chainlink Vivienne Westwood top.

Overall, Zendaya and Chalamet are a fashion couple that still seems too good to be true. However, celebrating their shared devotion to “understanding the assignment” feels just as we expected it would after more than 18 months without red carpet events to attend.
