The actress collaborated with the director of her film “Euphoria” and DP to covertly make a movie during the coronavirus outbreak.
By uploading a picture from her next movie Malcolm & Marie on Wednesday, Zendaya gave fans their first glimpse at an enigmatic new project.
The actress posted the black and white image of herself and co-star John David Washington portraying the close-knit titular pair to Instagram. She included Washington in the photo together with the project’s director, Sam Levinson, creator of Euphoria, and cinematographer Marcell Rév. ET can confirm that, in accordance with WGA, DGA, and SAG-AFTRA approvals, Malcolm & Marie was shot at Caterpillar House, an environmentally aware LEED Platinum Custom Home in Carmel, California, between June 17 and July 2, with a modest crew.
According to Deadline, the movie has “echoes of Marriage Story, while resonating a number of social themes that the world is experiencing right now.” Other than that, not much is known about it.
An in-depth explanation of how the project, which was financed by Zendaya, Washington, Levinson, and producer Kevin Turin, completed its two-week shoot in accordance with COVID-19 safety regulations is also included in Deadline’s piece. Prior to filming, the cast and crew were placed in separate quarantines, and in order to maintain social distance, rehearsals were held outside. Because of its distinctive design and mild climate, the house required less air conditioning and less heating.
Costumes and microphones were the responsibility of the individual actors, and small groups oversaw all aspects of on-set food, drink, and transportation. In addition, extra time was allocated daily for the sanitization of all filming equipment. No one was permitted to enter or exit the set while filming, crew members had daily temperature checks, and sets were pre-dressed and approved by the director via video chat.
Following the cancellation of Zendaya and Levinson’s season 2 Euphoria production back in March, the project came together. View the clip below to see what the actress hinted at to ET regarding the incredible HBO series’ upcoming return.
