Zendaya will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Mary-Jane Watson

around Zendaya, there’s been a great deal of uncertainty around her involvement in the next Spider-Man: Homecoming film. For a long, all we had to rely on was a few behind-the-scenes photos to get an idea of the character she would be playing. We found out after Comic-Con that she was portraying Michelle, a student at Peter Parker’s school. Comic book readers immediately thought this would be Michele Gonzales, but this theory also didn’t seem plausible as Michele debuted later in the series, following Peter’s graduation. Though a little perplexed, we were eager to find out more.

According to an exclusive revelation from The Wrap, the cat (or spider) is officially out of the bag as of yesterday. In reality, Zendaya will portray the legendary figure of Mary Jane Watson, who happens to be Peter’s love interest and, in a sense, soul mate.) Kirsten Dunst performed this character opposite Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in the first series of Spider-Man films.

Given that Spider-Man: Homecoming will take place during Peter’s high school years, this makes much more sense. Furthermore, there is far more excitement associated with Zendaya portraying such a well-known character than there was with the first theory. It goes without saying that when the news broke, the Internet nearly crashed.
