Gabriel Jesus, an attacker for Arsenal, put on an outstanding performance in his team’s 2-1 victory over Sevilla on Tuesday. After providing a magnificent assist to his countryman Gabriel Martinelli, the Brazilian international doubled the advantage for the north Londoners with a masterful curling finish to seal all three points in an entertaining UEFA Champions League match in Spain. But Jesus’s night ended early when he hobbled off in the final moments of the match due to a hamstring ιnjury. Assuming Mikel Arteta’s previous remarks regarding his center-forward’s fitness issue ahead of today’s Premier League match against Sheffield United are accurate, it will probably keep him out of action for a few weeks.

“Yeah, again, the scan showed that there is a muscle ιnjury and we might lose him for a few weeks again,” Arteta said. “With Gabby, I cannot give you any timeframe as he always surprises us.”

The Gunners boss has a wealth of other attacking options at his disposal, including the likes of Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and even Gabriel Martinelli. But one surprise alternative could be Emile Smith Rowe, who Arteta himself has previously admitted could be deployed upfront.

“I think he can play in four positions,” the Spaniard said of Smith Rowe last year. “As a left winger, a left attacking midfielder, a right attacking midfielder and he can play as a nine, very, very well.”

Fans would undoubtedly be taken aback if Smith Rowe started at the top, given that his previous appearance there came against Villarreal in 2021. This season, the Hale End academy alum has been used more frequently; in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea last Saturday, he played as number eight off the bench.
