Al Ittihad saw a verbal offer of £150 million rejected by Liverpool and were prepared to make Salah the most expensive player in history by increasing their proposal to almost £200 million, but the Reds stood fast and refused to do business on many occasions.

Salah’s performance on the field has definitely been unaffected by the conjecture, as the Egypt striker has ten goals and four assists in 14 appearances.

Klopp praised Salah ahead of Saturday’s match against Luton Town, insisting the 31-year-old is entirely focused on success with Liverpool.

“I don’t know anything about an offer or whatever, but it’s not important,” Klopp said when asked about a summer bid. “Mo is here; Mo never came to me and said he wanted to leave.” To be honest, I didn’t give it a second thought, whether we should [sell] or not. So, certainly, he is present.

“He feels extremely well, and you can see that he enjoys the team a lot. He played 105 minutes [against Nottingham Forest] and then played as a No. 9 [against Bournemouth], and he enjoyed that as well.”

“Yes, he’s in good shape on the pitch, goalscoring-wise; off the pitch, he’s in even better shape, I’d say.” He’s very upbeat. He enjoys the company of the boys and sees a lot of potential, which he wants to maximize by earning something out of it.

“But the other stuff, we never thought about it, and I hope I don’t have to.”

Salah is still one of the top objectives for the Saudi Pro League, along with Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to 90min, however whether there will be any formal interest in the January transfer window remains to be seen.
