In an interview with Sky Sports, the Newcastle manager shared some comments about a controversial goal. Arsenal suffered their first defeat in the Premier League this season after their match against Newcastle. Both teams created a drаmаtic game, and everything was decided by a goal that Manager Mikel Arteta called “embarrassing.”
The Spanish manager believed that the VAR officials did not perform their duties well, as there were a series of contentious incidents prior to that. However, Eddie Howe, on the other hand, stated that everything was thoroughly reviewed before reaching a conclusion.
‘Looked a good goal to me’ – Eddie Howe reacts to Mikel Arteta’s VAR meltdown
When asked about his thoughts on the recent victory, manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports:
“We were in the dark, standing on the sidelines, seeing VAR on the screen but not clear images. I haven’t seen anything different from what I saw at that moment. To me, it was a beautiful goal.
Perhaps [Mikel Arteta] saw something that I didn’t see.
I only saw it live and from my perspective, I didn’t know what was happening.
With each check taking place, I thought they would find something wrong with the goal. It was strange to have three incidents that needed to be reviewed. But the goal was awarded, and that’s all I know.”
