The addition of Declan Rice has significantly changed Arsenal’s midfield. The £105 million signing replaced Partey in the central midfield position at the start of the season, taking up the number 6 role, while Partey had to switch to right-back.

Manager Mikel Arteta has faced criticism for misusing the Ghanaian international. Furthermore, injuries have limited Partey’s contributions to Arsenal. Some experts believe that it would be best for Arsenal to sell Partey in the winter transfer window.

In reality, Arsenal’s strongest midfield combination consists of Jorginho-Rice-Odegaard. Selling Partey and acquiring midfielders like Douglas Luiz or Martin Zubimendi would make sense. However, according to Steve Kay, Arteta has no intention of letting Partey leave.

“Despite recent rumors suggesting that Thomas Partey could leave in the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta has no intention of selling him,” revealed Kay.

“There have also been rumors that Partey is unhappy with his lack of playing time. That is also not true. However, they don’t have plans to sit down and talk about a new deal, so everything could change in the summer.”
