Buffalo Sabres captain Kyle Okposo is gearing up for his 1,000th NHL game on Tuesday. The Sabres will pay tribute to Okposo with a ceremony before the matchup against the Boston Bruins at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
Okposo becomes the 46th active player to achieve this impressive milestone, marking the first to do so donning a Sabres uniform since Jason Pominville in 2018. With 17 NHL seasons under his belt, Okposo has contributed to both the Sabres and the New York Islanders.
In response to the upcoming honor, Okposo humbly stated, “I won’t do anything for praise or recognition. I just try to do the right thing, and this is something that’s a byproduct of that. It’s a special day for everybody who helped me get to this point, for sure—my family and people behind the scenes who supported me the whole way. So I’m gonna try to enjoy it and soak everything in.”
To add to the celebration, the first 10,000 fans attending Tuesday’s game will receive a commemorative stick case featuring a miniature replica of the customary silver stick presented to players reaching the 1,000-game milestone.
