It appears that not even his relatives have come to terms with the fact that Connor McDavid is the world’s greatest hockey player.
The Edmonton Oilers captain was doing his usual dance around the offensive zone during Wednesday’s season opener against the Vancouver Canucks when his grandmother up in the stands was captured on camera taking in the on-ice action.
Grandma McDavid watched this perennial Hart Trophy contender with a look of intense concentration on the play, no doubt with the same vigor she’s had since watching him in Peewee. She expressed emotion in the only way anyone can: By swearing.
It’s touching and highlights just what a unique player Connor McDavid is that someone who has been watching the Oilers’ centerman since he first skated is still so captivated by a mid-range scoring opportunity.
This season, it will be required of all of us to collectively swear at every highlight. It is organic.
With two assists in the 3-2 shootout victory over the Canucks, McDavid hopes to increase his collection of awards this season with a third Hart Trophy and a fourth Art Ross Trophy.
