Canada’s top NHL players are concluding their off-season preparations for the upcoming 2023-2024 NHL season, scheduled to commence in October.
Over the past three months, these players have made the most of their summer break. From Connor McDavid, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, to Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, several prominent Canadian NHL players engaged in various activities. Whether it was playing golf, attending music festivals, or enjoying relaxing moments by the lake, these stars made the most of their summer break.
Here’s a glimpse into how nine Canadian hockey luminaries spent their summer.
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid had a dynamic off-season in the last three months.
To kick off the break, McDavid became engaged to his longtime girlfriend Lauren Kyle in Muskoka. He then traveled to Victoria, B.C. to attend the wedding of former Edmonton Oiler Tyson Barrie.
Following the wedding festivities, McDavid and his fiancée explored Tofino on Vancouver Island. The couple later returned to Ontario, where they were spotted at the Boots and Hearts Festival with McDavid’s family.
Despite hockey being his primary sport, McDavid also showed an interest in tennis and golf. He attended the National Bank Open in Toronto and participated in the Zach Hyman Celebrity Classic, a golf tournament in Vaughan, alongside his Oilers teammate Leon Draisaitl.
True to his love for hockey, McDavid continued to stay involved during the off-season. He was seen playing in a beer league championship in Newmarket in August, although his team unfortunately faced defeat.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner had a lively off-season.
In a delightful surprise, the hockey star arranged for a special moment for his then-fiancée Stephanie LaChance at a Shania Twain concert in June. Marner reached out to Twain, revealing that LaChance was a devoted fan who had choreographed dance moves to all of Twain’s songs. This led to an invitation from Twain for the couple to join her on stage during one of her performances, where they danced to the hit song “Up!”
One of the notable Leafs gatherings occurred at former Maple Leaf Alex Kerfoot’s wedding in B.C., where Marner celebrated alongside teammates John Tavares and Morgan Rielly.
Following this, Marner hosted his spectacular wedding at Peller Estates in Niagara-on-the-Lake in late July. The wedding videographer shared some entertaining highlights, including Marner’s lively “Griddy” dance entrance.
After the wedding festivities, Marner and his wife embarked on a honeymoon to Greece, as reported by the Toronto Sun.
