Mikel Arteta’s tactical mistake: Arsenal wastes Declan Rice – calls for transfer of Bayern star

Mikel Arteta’s tactical mistake: Arsenal wastes Declan Rice – calls for transfer of Bayern star.

According to former Arsenal and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit, Declan Rice’s best position is as a defensive No6, rather than the box-to-box No8 role he has been playing for England. Petit believes that Rice’s priority should be to maintain balance in the team and win the ball back for his side. He feels that Rice’s abilities as a holding midfielder are being underutilized in the No8 role, which was previously occupied by Granit Xhaka at Arsenal.

As a former defensive midfielder himself, Petit emphasizes the importance of playing players in their natural positions. He suggests that Rice’s role as a holding midfielder is fundamental to how Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants his team to play. Petit played for Arsenal from 1997 to 2000 before moving to Barcelona and later returning to the Premier League with Chelsea in 2001.

Petit believes Rice should be playing in a deeper role

In addition to discussing Rice’s potential role at Arsenal, Petit also suggests that the club should consider signing Bayern Munich duo Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich to solve their midfield conundrum. He believes that both players have vast experience and would bring a new challenge to the Arsenal team. Petit praises Goretzka’s consistent high-level performances at Bayern and highlights Kimmich as a great addition to Arsenal, despite the potential high price tag.

Rice himself has expressed his preference for playing as a No6, citing his strengths in breаking up play and initiating attacks from deep. However, he also enjoys the opportunity to showcase his skills in a more advanced No8 role.
