To support the Ben Stelter Foundation, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid is collaborating with nearby schools to collect money.
The purpose of the fundraiser is to inspire local schoolchildren to start fundraising campaigns and raise funds for families whose children suffer from cancer.
In a video that was shared on social media, McDavid declared, “We’re inviting students from Edmonton Public Schools to lead the Ben Stelter Foundation campaign within their schools.” “Come along with us as we fight childhood cancer and together, let’s bring about positive change.”
Two student leaders will oversee the campaigns at each participating school. The top two grades must contain those leaders. In addition to raising funds, the fundraiser aims to support students in developing their leadership abilities.
In addition, every school will have a chance to win a visit from McDavid himself and two signed Oilers jerseys for their student leaders. For every $1,000 raised, additional entries will be given to schools.
Applications for student leaders are being accepted by the fundraiser until November 3rd. The real fundraising will take place from November 20 to November 24.
In Edmonton, Ben Stelter has grown to become a legend. The six-year-old gained notoriety as he battled during the Oilers’ 2022 playoff run.
One of McDavid’s most ardent supporters, the Ben Stelter Foundation was established in his honor to help raise funds for other children suffering from cancer.
For the Stelter family, things have not been easy. Less than a year after Ben’s death, in July, Mike Stelter, Ben’s father, received a rare form of spine cancer diagnosis. Through a GoFundMe campaign, the family was able to raise over $87,000 to help with travel expenses and medical treatment, demonstrating the amazing support that the community has shown them.
