On Friday afternoon, the Detroit Red Wings hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs. But since it was played in Sweden, it wasn’t your ordinary game. A few Swedish players are getting the chance to participate in these games from home on both sides. There, guys like Lucas Raymond and William Nylander steer the conversation.
In this match, Detroit got things going. A skater’s glove covered the puck in the blue paint, giving Daniel Sprong a penalty shot. He gave his team the lead 1-0 with a stunning goal.
After a scoreless first, Detroit took a 2-0 lead in the second and maintained it into the third. But Nylander extended his point streak to 16 games—all of the games this season—at 3:50 into the final frame when he made a brilliant pass to Tyler Bertuzzi, who put Toronto on the board.
Currently, one of the top players in the NHL is William Nylander.
But Nylander had more to offer his hometown supporters. After about ten minutes (of the game clock), he scored on a power play. It was quite remarkable for the Leafs to tie the game after falling behind 2-0, and Nylander was central to it all.
A minute and a half later, John Tavares scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal thanks to an incredible pass from Tyler Bertuzzi. Leafs victory, 3-2. Nylander put up a nice three-point effort and was rewarded with a secondary assist on the play for his efforts.
After the game, he received recognition as the game’s top star in his native country. It was amazing to observe. With 25 points now, he is ranked second in the NHL. Nylander is without a doubt among the NHL’s top players.
After going 0-1-1, the Red Wings are now done in Sweden, but the Maple Leafs will continue their trip for one more game. On Sunday, they will play the Minnesota Wild.
