Rico Lewis of Manchester City shared a fantastic snapshot of himself as a youngster wearing an England jersey after making his Three Lions debut.
Gareth Southgate gave Lewis his senior England debut against North Macedonia on Monday, and the 19-year-old went on to win the player of the match award. Lewis has now reflected on his debut on social media with an incredible shot of him as a little youngster in full Three Lions gear.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way.” It is an honor to represent England,” he wrote with the photo on Instagram.
Lewis made an impression on his management against North Macedonia. Southgate claimed after the 1-1 tie that the Manchester City kid was “excellent” and that the penalty judgment was “very, very harsh.” Lewis will be looking to make a late push for a spot in England’s Euro 2024 team, and his versatility makes him an appealing alternative. The youngster is capable of playing both full-back and midfield.
Rico Lewis is the second-youngest Manchester City player to play for England (18 years, 364 days), after only Micah Richards (18 years, 144 days) in 2006.
Lewis will now return to City, hoping for more Premier League starts to strengthen his international chances. This season, the teenager has made five appearances in the Premier League, although only two of them have been as a starter. The Cityzens return to action on Saturday when they face Liverpool at the top of the standings.
