2023 Globe Soccer Awards: Cristiano Ronaldo Is Anticipated to Take Home a New Trophy

Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are included on the 30 person shortlist for the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Male Player category.

Ronaldo, aged 38, is the oldest nominee; Messi, at 36, is the third oldest, behind Luka Modric, who is 38.

Messi won the trophy in 2005, but the only player to win it more than once is Ronaldo, who won it six times.

The last three winners since Ronaldo’s 2019 victory are Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, and Karim Benzema. This year, all three have received new nominations.

Ronaldo is vying with 12 other players for the title of Best Middle Eastern Player. Odion Ighalo, Ali Mabkhout, Michael Olunga, Alejandro Romero, Talisca, Abderrazak Hamdallah, Salem Al-Dawsari, Mourad Batna, Mohamed El Shenawy, and Benzema are among the remaining 11 nominees.

There are 20 nominees for Best Female Player, including Aitana Bonmati, the winner of the Ballon d’Or Feminin.

The six Spanish players on the shortlist are Mapi Leon, Patricia Guijarro, Olga Carmona, Salma Paralluelo, and Bonmati, a midfielder for Barcelona.
