TOP GUNS: With a late ᴠιctσɾy Kai Havertz goes from zero to hero to put the Gunners top the Premier League

Kai Havertz came on as a substitute in the second half and scored the winning goal to help Arsenal secure a 1-0 victory against Brentford in Matchday 13 of the English Premier League. In the 89th minute, Havertz capitalized on a cross from Bukayo Saka on the right flank, making a run towards the far post and heading the ball past goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

This goal marked Havertz’s second Premier League goal of the season, with his previous goal coming from a penalty kιck in a 4-0 victory against Bournemouth in late September. Arsenal’s win also highlighted their strength in utilizing their bench players, as it was their 10th goal scored by substitutes across all competitions this season, the highest among Premier League clubs alongside Brighton.

More importantly, Havertz’s goal propelled Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table, taking advantage of a draw between Manchester City and Liverpool in their early match. The Gunners now have 30 points, leading Manchester City and Liverpool by one and two points, respectively.

The match at the Gtech Community Stadium on November 25th saw Aaron Ramsdale return as the starting goalkeeper for Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time since their 3-1 victory against Manchester United on September 3rd. Ramsdale’s position as the first-choice goalkeeper had been under scrutiny, and his performance in the first half of the match against Brentford included some baffling mistakes.

In the 13th minute, Ramsdale’s slow reaction allowed Yoane Wissa to steаl the ball from him inside the penalty area. Wissa then passed the ball to Bryan Mbeumo, but Declan Rice managed to clear the ball off the goal line. Ramsdale almost gifted Brentford a goal in the 14th minute when he mishandled the ball and allowed Wissa to intercept it, but Wissa’s subsequent shot missed the target.

In the 37th minute, Ramsdale made another error when his throw out Һit the ground and went straight to Wissa outside the penalty area. However, Brentford failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

In the second half, Arsenal continued to survive close calls. In the 77th minute, Mbeumo delivered a cross into the box, and substitute Neal Maupay beаt Takehiro Tomiyasu in an aerial duel and directed the ball towards the near post. But Oleksandr Zinchenko was in the right position to block the shot on the goal line. Prior to that, Zinchenko had lost possession, leading to a Brentford cоunterattack.

Despite Brentford having their fair share of chances, including the disallowed goal by Trossard in the first half, they ultimately paid the price for not converting their opportunities when Havertz found the back of the net in the 89th minute, resulting in a defeat for the home team.
