According to BILD, Manchester United are ready to make a move for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller if he decides not to extend his contract, which expires next summer.
The international from Germany has spent his whole career with the Bavarian giants. He has seven goals this season but has barely played 40 minutes per game.
BILD believe that the player and the club have yet to agree on a contract renewal, which might open the way for him to go on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season.
United have long been connected with the 34-year-old, and the German tabloid claims that if the striker decides to leave Bayern, they will be ready to pounce.
Along with the Red Devils, a number of American and Saudi Arabian clubs are keeping a watch on Muller, who has been a regular off the bench this season under Thomas Tuchel.
Muller conjecture for new deal is largely agent-driven.
Muller, regarded as ‘world-class’ by the Bundesliga’s official website, is already a legend at Bayern, having made nearly 700 games.
The German has been a significant player for Bayern for the past 16 years, and we would be surprised if he chose to leave the club in the later stages of his career.
Muller would prefer to retire in Munich. Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund recently informed DAZN that the club plans to negotiate a new contract with Muller in the coming weeks.
The speculation, in our opinion, is solely agent-driven in order to expedite the renewal process.
United have previously expressed interest in signing Muller, but they are unlikely to approach a player who is past his peak and may command a big weekly wage to join the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is scheduled to take over as sporting director, has already questioned United’s acquisition of Casemiro. Muller belongs in the same boat. A deal will simply not be made.
