The hockey player, who is from the same Cordoba area as her previous River Plate singer partner, is believed to have dated Alvarez briefly around five years ago before they rekindled their connection.

But it wasn’t until his move to Manchester ahead of this season that the couple made their relationship public.

Emilia, whose full name is Maria Emilia Ferrero but she goes by her middle name, posed for a selfie in an Argentine top outside Qatar’s Lusail Stadium, where Argentina faced Mexico last Saturday.

“I’m going to cheer you on for the rest of my life.”

Overnight, she tweeted images of herself putting a kiss on Julian’s cheek alongside her “Te Amo” statement – English for “I Love You” – and celebrating Argentina’s group stage victory with the footballer’s relatives.

The Manchester City player, who scored a wonderful goal for his country against Poland on Wednesday, responded to his girlfriend’s “I love you” remark in his own Instagram Story: “Me too my love.”

After scoring against Mexico and then Australia, Alvarez seemed to have solidified a spot in Lionel Scaloni’s starting lineup.

The 22-year-old has seven goals in 20 games for Man City, with a large chunk of his game time coming off the bench or from wide areas due to Erling Haaland’s record-breaking heroics.
