‘Missing duo’: Five takeaways from Manchester United’s training as the two are missing ahead of their match against Bayern Munich

Monday was the final Manchester United practice before the crucial game with Bayern Munich.

But with United needing to win to have any chance of moving on to the next round, manager Erik ten Hag will be closely monitoring the injury report. They are now bottom of their Champions League group having lost all five of their games.

Ten Hag has three days to get his squad ready for the Bayern encounter. After a devastating loss to Bournemouth, the Red Devils come into the game fired up. The top five conversation points from Mirror Football’s most recent practise are listed below.

1. The absent duo

Ten Hag is most concerned about Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s absences from practice before Tuesday’s game. United later declared that both forwards were ill.

It is doubtful that they will recover in time to play Bayern, considering how important a role each of them has played this season. Ten Hag may need to alter his attack tactics if neither can heal in time.

During his pre-game press conference, Ten Hag acknowledged that he was unsure about his team’s preparation. “We have a training because it’s a condensed program, so right now, I’m not sure who’s available for tomorrow,” he said.

2. Martinez boost

Lisandro Martinez’s return was more encouraging than Rashford and Martial’s absences, though. Martinez has been sidelined for the past three months due to a recurrence of his metatarsal issue.

But as part of his recuperation, the Argentine was seen departing the training group with the others before going off to work alone. But before he can be considered fully recovered, he still has some work to do.

When his excellent defender made a comeback to the field, Ten Hag did, however, see some bright spots. The World Cup winner has been absent from United’s back four, so the announcement that he is accelerating his recovery is very positive for the Dutchman.

3. Lindelof relief

On the injury front, Ten Hag may now rest easy, since Victor Lindelof has overcome his reservations to participate in the session. The Dutchman had voiced his worries over the defender’s fitness.

Ten Hag had stated earlier in the day during his press conference: “Victor Lindelof’s ability to make it or not is in doubt. We will have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

To calm any fears, Lindelof was seen on Monday actively participating in the session. Ten Hag will be glad to have a natural center-back available because Luke Shaw is finding it difficult to fill the role.

4. A relaxed squad

During the session, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Alejandro Garnacho were seen to be rejoicing.Garnacho attempted to lighten the situation by hopping on Sergio Reguilon’s back. Ten Hag has declared that he is positive that his team is in the right frame of mind for Tuesday’s game.

“It is evident that we lack consistency,” he stated. However, we also had some excellent moments and high points. We can therefore defeat any opponent if we understand it, are in the correct frame of mind, and are able to execute it.

5. Veterans pass on their knowledge

experienced center back Jonny Evans and his seasoned assistant manager Steve McLaren were observed chatting during the practice. Surprisingly, Evans has received first team minutes this season despite the center back position’s injury crisis.

In addition, it appears that the United center back has been using his experience in a variety of situations in an effort to turn around a struggling campaign. Evans seemed to be enjoying a happy chat with McLaren as he gave the entire session his full attention on Monday.
