According to reports, Arsenal is optimistic about signing Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window, while Napoli has shown interest in acquiring Gabriel Jesus in exchange. Football insider Mo (@MoArsenal86) has shared that sources suggest Arsenal believes Osimhen will join their club, but it is unlikely that they will let go of Jesus.
Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato recently confirmed that Osimhen is expected to sign a new contract with Napoli, which will include a release clause. The clause is reported to be around £112 million, but it could potentially rise to £120 million.
Venerato also revealed that Arsenal has already approached Osimhen’s agent, and the player’s contract extension with Napoli seems to be more of a planned farewell. However, Chelsea is also said to be interested in acquiring Osimhen’s services.
Charles Watts previously reported that Arsenal had discussions with Osimhen’s agent in May 2022, with the agent visiting London for a meeting with Edu Gaspar. Although Napoli was not willing to sell the player at the time, Arsenal turned their attention to Gabriel Jesus instead. Nonetheless, Watts mentioned in November that Arsenal’s interest in Osimhen has not diminished, and the club is still keen on signing a striker in the summer.
So far this season, Osimhen has scored seven goals and provided two assists in his 15 appearances in Serie A and the Champions League. He has played a crucial role in helping Napoli advance to the last-16 in the Champions League, where they could potentially face Arsenal depending on the outcome of the draw on Monday.
