Manchester City’s 2022/23 season ended with a historic treble as Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles.
Victory in the Champions League final against Inter Milan finally secured Guardiola’s first European title since he arrived in Manchester in 2016 and his third in total.
As part of their success in the Champions League, City have been selected as UEFA’s representatives at the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The tournament kicks off on December 12, with City reaching the semi-finals a week later, and Guardiola could be on the verge of achieving another historic record.

The 2023 victory marked City’s first Champions League title with the club’s only other European title coming in the 1970 UEFA European Cup. Split.
As European qualification at the Club World Cup is awarded to the Champions League winners from the previous season, this was Man City’s debut at the tournament.
Pep Guardiola’s club World Cup championship title
Although Man City still lacks experience in this tournament, Guardiola has stood on this stage many times before.
Guardiola has won this tournament 3 times with a 100% record, including 2 titles with Barcelona and 1 title with Bayern Munich.
His incredible Barcelona side beat Argentina’s Estudiantes in the 2009 final and overcame Brazil’s Santos in 2011, with Lionel Messi scoring in both finals.
In the 2013 final between Guardiola’s Munich side and Moroccan side Raja Casablanca — after his predecessor Jupp Heynckes won the Champions League the previous season — Man City’s current boss claimed his third victory.
FIFA Club World Cup winning coach
Guardiola is one of two coaches to have won the Club World Cup three times, along with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti has matched Guardiola in winning titles with two different teams, at AC Milan and Real Madrid, with Zinedine Zidane the only manager to win back-to-back titles, as he lifted the trophy with Los Blancos in 2016 and 2017.
Rafael Benitez has equaled the record of Guardiola and Ancelotti’s last three appearances, but his only victory came with Inter Milan in 2010, after defeats to Liverpool (2005) and Chelsea (2012).
Benitez is on the list of 11 coaches with the same title, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique.
