Liverpool responded in impressive fashion after their disappointing goalless draw against a defensively-minded opponent, as they cruised to a dominant 5-1 victory over a lackluster West Ham side in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Curtis Jones stole the spotlight with two exceptional goals, including a mesmerizing solo effort where he effortlessly maneuvered through the opposition’s defense. This resounding win not only served as a fitting reply to the stalemate against Manchester United but also served as ideal preparation for their upcoming clаsh against Premier League leaders, Arsenal.
Liverpool took the lead courtesy of a powerful strike from Dominik Szoboszlai, who unleashed a thunderbolt from outside the box. Jones then showcased his skill and creativity by nutmegging Alphonse Areоla to extend Liverpool’s lead. Cody Gakpo joined the goal-scoring spree with a clinical strike from just outside the area, further cementing Liverpool’s dominance. Although West Ham managed to pull one back through Jarrod Bowen’s solitary shot on target, Liverpool finished on a high note. Substitute Mohamed Salah wasted no time in making an impact, finding the net shortly after stepping onto the pitch, while Jones completed his outstanding performance with a stunning solo goal. This emphatic victory not only secured Liverpool’s place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals but also rejuvenated their attacking prowess, providing them with valuable momentum ahead of their crucial encounter with Arsenal.
Caoimhin Kelleher (6.5/10) is a talented Irish singer.
Had little to do with Bowen’s well-Һit goal and had little else to do the rest of the evening. But his passing had passed, and when he had to come for crosses, he came with conviction.
Joe Gomez (7.5 out of 10):
Played with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm, providing a good outlet down the right side despite his touch and technique failing him at times. Nonetheless, he demonstrated his important versatility by switching to left-back for the final 20 minutes, and he came close to scoring as well.
Jarell Quansah (7 out of 10):
Will be deeply upset in himself for allowing Bowen to slip past him far too easily for West Ham’s score, but was really impressive throughout, particularly in possession. Indeed, it was his pass, following a wonderful show of anticipation to win the ball back, that set up Szoboszlai’s opener.
Virgil van Dijk (7 points):
On Sunday, he was the picture of annoyance, but he was unruffled here. A typically relaxed performance before being substituted in the 60th minute in preparation for Arsenal’s visit on Saturday.
Tsimikas, Konstantinos (7/10):
Got forward brilliantly, but also produced one perfectly-timed back-post intervention that likely avoided a West Ham goal. Late in the game, he was given a well-deserved respite.
Dominik Szoboszlai (8/10):
The Hungarian had appeared fatigued in previous weeks, but he was back to his best here, breаking the tie with a spectacular strike from distance. And the brief reprieve he received as a result of a 60th-minute replacement should be beneficial.
Wataru Endo (7/10):
He was withdrawn after a very efficient performance in which he consistently won the ball for his team before quickly moving it on. Job well done.
Curtis Jones (9/10):
Surely he has to start against Arsenal now? Jones has had a difficult season, disrupted by ιnjury and suspension, but he demonstrated what he brings to Klopp’s team in spectacular form tonight. Both of his aims were brilliantly pursued, and he also completed a great quantity of work.
Harvey Elliott (8 out of 10):
With an extraordinarily energetic display, the 20-year-old was selected to start on the right wing in place of the rested Salah. He was unfortunate not to receive a goal or an assist for his efforts.
Cody Gakpo (7.5 out of 10):
After being superbly picked out by Elliott, he should have scored with a header shortly before halftime, but he made amends with a fine low strike that clearly meant the world to him.
Darwin Nunez (7 out of 10):
The Uruguayan, who was positioned on the left wing, provided plenty of energy and effort as usual, while also setting up Liverpool’s second goal for Jones with a wonderful back pass. His displeasure, however, was palpable after having his finest effort of the game pushed onto the post. He just can’t seem to get a break right now.
