John McTiernan directed the 1987 American science fiction action movie Predator, which was written by brothers Jim and John Thomas. It is the first Predator movie ever released. In the film, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the head of a highly skilled paramilitary rescue squad sent to free prisoners in a Central American rainforest under guerilla control. Along the way, they come across Kevin Peter Hall’s terrifying Predator, a technologically sophisticated extraterrestrial who is tracking and stalking them.Hunter was the working title of the 1984 novel Predator. Stan Winston created the creature effects for the film, which was shot between March and June 1986 on a budget of about $15 million. On June 12, 1987, 20th Century Fox distributed the movie in the US, and it brought in $98.3 million. Although the movie received mixed reviews at first, it has subsequently been reevaluated as an action genre classic.The popularity of Predator led to the creation of a toy line, video games, comic books, novels, and movies. Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), and The Predator (2018) are the three direct sequels that came from it, and there is currently a fourth film in preproduction. The Alien vs. Predator films, including Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), are the result of a crossover with the Alien franchise.
