Liverpool made a significant signing in the summer transfer window by bringing in Wataru Endo to bolster their No.6 position at Anfield. However, with Endo’s departure for the Asian Cup, where he could be unavailable for over a month, Liverpool has set their sights on another No.6 option in Morten Frendrup.
According to a report from Tutto Sport, Liverpool is leading the race to secure the signing of the Danish midfielder. Although Serie A giants Juventus are also interested in Frendrup, Liverpool is currently at the forefront of negotiations.
Frendrup, who was a crucial member of the Genoa side that secured second place in Serie B and earned promotion last season, can effectively play in both defensive and central midfield roles. The 22-year-old has featured in 20 games for Genoa this season, across various competitions, and has provided five assists.
Currently, Liverpool lacks a natural defensive midfielder in their squad. Argentine international Mac Allister has mainly filled the No.6 role under manager Jurgen Klopp this season. While Allister has performed well in the deep-lying midfield position, his natural inclination is towards a more creative role further up the field. Therefore, Liverpool sees Frendrup as a potential solution to add depth and quality to their midfield options.
