One of man’s most potent weapons is fire. Early humans could prepare their food and endure harsh environments thanks to fire. And we have been looking for ways to harness it ever since it was originally found. Candles were used for millennia to both literally and figuratively light the way until the invention of the lighter in 1823. The first lighter was created by German scientist Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner as a component of a lamp. Carl Auer von Welsbach, an Austrian physicist, created ferrocerium in 1903, which contributed to the development of the modern lighter. Ferrocerium was frequently mistaken for flint, but it assisted businesses in creating mass-market lighters that were affordable, useful, and simple to operate.
The Wonderlite, the first ever permanent match style lighter, was created in 1913 by Ronson, a business located in New Jersey. American inventor George Grant Blaisdell established the firm in 1932 and invented the Zippo lighter in the same year. Soon after, Zippos gained appeal due to their greater dependability, lifetime warranty, and wind-proof marketing. Initially, Zippos ran on naphtha, a flammable liquid hyrocarbon combination; but, in the 1950s, they converted to butane since it produced a less offensive odor and offered a more regulated flame.
These days, their Bradford, Pennsylvania facility produces over 70,000 Zippo lighters every day. Numerous skilled painters have collaborated with the business to create a wide range of colors and patterns for them. There have also been a ton of amazing lighter tattoos made over the years in recent years.
