Another movie is coming soon from international martial artist turned action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme, whose 2021 release “The Last Mercenary” was a hit on Netflix. He is set to reunite with filmmaker David Charhon of “The Last Mercenary” for another high-octane action-comedy, “Le jardinier,” where he will feature opposite Michaël Youn (“BDE”).
“Le jardinier” has been picked up by Amazon Prime Video for the French market. Other Angle Pictures is in charge of the film’s international distribution and has already landed deals with Blue Fox in the United States, Plaion Pictures in Germany, All Media in Russia, and Media Squad in Eastern Europe.
Filming is set to begin on February 5 in Belgium and France, including a well-known cast that includes Jérôme Le Banneur, Ragnar Le Breton, Carla Poquin (also known as “Poqssi”), Nawell Madani (“Jusqu’ici tout va bien”), and Kaaris (“Braqueurs”). Sébastien Fechner produces “Le jardinier” for Rose Prods.
The film centers on Serge and his family as they try to devise a scheme involving their eccentric gardener, Leo, and find themselves on the government’s execution list due to their possession of a state secret.
“Le jardinier” is the third Charhon-directed movie that Other Angle Pictures is distributing; the other two are “The Last Mercenary” and “On the Other Side of the Tracks.”
Co-founder of Other Angle Olivier Albou stated, “David Charhon has proven his ability to deliver well-made action comedies and teaming him with Van Damme makes it an appealing package for buyers,” noting that Van Damme is still a “bankable actor.” “The Last Mercenary” was a huge hit on Netflix in 2021 and continues to be one of the top 10 streamers. We also managed the global sales of “The Bouncer” with Van Damme.
“Le jardinier” will be shown to purchasers by Other Angle this week at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous exhibit in Paris.
