On her back, Angelina Jolie has a tattoo of Yant ViHan Pha Chad Sada.
The former monk inked this original Sak Yant tattoo on Angelina’s back using steel rods mounted with a surgical steel needle. It was designed by Ajarn Noo Kanpai specifically for her.
Two yants make up the intricate design; the upper is a square box with enchanted lettering within. The four continents and the elements of earth, water, wind, and fire are represented by the Sak Yant Talisman square. Every box has text, but only Ajarn Noo can truly understand what it means because of the text’s placement within the square in relation to the other boxes.
Ajarn Noo Kanpai was flown from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where Angelina was filming, specifically for this particular ink. Her former partner Brad Pitt received a Buddhist sign tattooed on his stomach, while she received three Sak yant tattoos on her back. Ajarn Noo used the same ink to draw patterns on both stars “to symbolically bind them as husband and wife,” however their marriage failed after only a few months, and they divorced in September 2016.
