Liverpool have had another busy few days with two matches in four days. First up is Sparta Praha in the Europa League. Among the players training in Kirkby was the welcoming presence of Ryan Gravenberch. The midfielder has been sidelined since being stretchered off in the Carabao Cup final, following a bad tackle by Moisés Caicedo.
Jürgen Klopp certainly feared the worst at that time at Wembley, although the Liverpool manager later revealed the problem was not as bad as initially feared. His participation in training today seems to confirm that.
Whether he will be invоlved in sоmething against Sparta tоmоrrоw remаins tо be seen. Hоwever, Gravenberch appears tо be aiming fоr a return tо first-team fооtball. While Gravenberch’s return will be a major boost, Ibrahima Konaté’s absence will continue to be a concern. The defender missed Sunday’s draw with Manchester City, having been forced off in the first leg against Sparta last week.
It is hoped he can return in time for the second leg, although it seems unlikely the Frenchman will take any risks. Due to the lack of training, his participation in Sunday’s match against Manchester United will also be questioned. With the match against Sparta already a foregone conclusion, Klopp could take the opportunity to rest some of his senior stars. The Red Devils have plenty of young players they could call up tomorrow night.
Some familiar faces are training and it looks like they could be given a chance at Anfield. The likes of Kaide Gordon and James McConnell were tested alongside more established names. Unfortunately, there will be no appearance from Jayden Danns on this occasion, but plenty of other academy stars will be in attendance. Klopp has shown no hesitation in giving the club’s youngsters a chance and he will likely do so again tomorrow night.
