Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated album, The Tortured Poets Department, hasn’t even been released yet, but fans are already speculating about the songs’ subjects based on the recently revealed tracklist. While many Swifties believe the album will primarily revolve around her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, some are convinced that one particular track might be inspired by her past relationship with Harry Styles, which took place from late 2012 to early 2013.

After Taylor unveiled the tracklist in February 2024, fans immediately began speculating that the song “But Daddy I Love Him” could be referencing the former One Direction member. A viral photo from 2020 surfaced, showing Harry wearing a shirt with the phrase “But Daddy I Love Him” while posing with fans.

One fan shared on X, “BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM!!!?!?! HARRY STYLES IS ALWAYS AT THE CRIME SCENE.”

The quote itself comes from Disney’s animated film, The Little Mermaid, which was released in Taylor’s birth year of 1989. Additionally, Taylor dressed up as Ariel for a New Year’s Eve party in 2019, where she and her friends paid homage to their childhood heroes.

Furthermore, Harry was considered for the role of Prince Eric in the 2023 live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, as confirmed by director Rоb Marshall to Entertainment Weekly in May 2023. Marshall praised Harry but mentioned that he ultimately chose to pursue other, darker movie projects.

However, some believe that the track may not be about Harry Styles at all but rather about the plot of The Little Mermaid, where the mermaid sacrifices her voice to be with the prince. There is speculation that this could be a reference to Taylor’s six-year relationship with Joe.

During their time together, Taylor and Joe kept their relationship mostly private, only briefly mentioning it in public. Taylor is currently dating Travis Kelce, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs.

It remаins unclear who and what it will truly be about until the song is released along with the rest of her album on April 19.
