Taylor Swift looked lovely on the red carpet at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which were held on Sunday (August 25) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 23-year-old musician flew to New York after finishing her gigs in Los Angeles to present at the award event alongside her BFF Selena Gomez.

The MTV Video Music Awards are famous — or infamous, depending on your point of view — for generating some of the most daring and outrageous red-carpet looks of all time.

Previous years’ highlight looks included Lady Gaga’s raw meat dress, Lil Kim’s purple nipple pasty, and Rose McGowan’s buttock-baring chain mail costume. The 2013 show on Sunday, August 25, had no frocks constructed completely of food, but there were plenty of eye-catching outfits.

Miley Cyrus, for example, strolled the red carpet at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in black leggings and a black off-the-shoulder crop top decorated with a profusion of brilliant gems, while Taylor Swift looked beautiful and mature in a plunging Herve Leger by Max Azria gown with Marilyn Monroe-style golden hair.

Katy Perry, on the other hand, made a fun statement wearing an Emanuel Ungaro leopard-print dress with gold accents and a thigh-high slit.
