Grammy-winning pop sensation Ariana Grande’s grandmother, Marjorie Grande, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming the oldest artist to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This remarkable milestone is a testament to her age-defying talent and enduring impact on the music industry.
At the age of 98, Marjorie Grande’s song “Ordinary Things” debuted at an impressive number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 23. This accomplishment coincided with the release of her granddaughter Ariana Grande’s album “Eternal Sunshine,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
By securing a place on the Hot 100, Marjorie Grande surpasses the record previously held by the late Fred Stobaugh, who was 96 when his song “Oh Sweet Lorraine” spent a week on the chart at number 42 in 2013. She now stands as the oldest artist in Hot 100 history since its establishment on August 4, 1958.
Notably, legendary artist Tony Bennett currently ranks third among the oldest artists to chart on the Hot 100. At the age of 85, his collaboration with Amy Winehouse, “Body and Soul,” reached number 87 on October 1, 2011. Bennett surpassed the record set by George Burns, who was 84 when his song “I Wish I Were Eighteen Again” concluded its chart run in 1980.
