Selena Gomez has continued her streak of absence from the Met Gala for the sixth consecutive year, leaving fans disappointed as the 90s star is always eagerly anticipated at the event.

A close source to Selena Gomez confirmed to People magazine that the singer is simply busy with her own commitments, including filming the fourth season of the television series “Only Murders in the Building.” She is also focusing on her own beauty brand – Rare Beauty – and attending the Mental Health Summit recently held in the United States.

The last time Selena attended the Met Gala was in 2018, with the event’s theme centered around “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Despite wearing an alluring ivory tiered gown, her hair and makeup mishaps made it one of the most forgettable moments for Selena.

Reflecting on the experience in an interview with Glamour UK in 2022, Selena admitted that her sun-kissed complexion at the time was a mistake but still memorable. She recalled, “When I was getting ready for the Met Gala, we put on a little bit of tinted moisturizer and it looked beautiful, but as the night went on, it got darker and darker. When I sat at the dinner table, I saw a picture of myself and it looked so bad, even though I was at the most prestigious fashion event in the world. My first thought was to get out of there immediately.”

Selena’s close friend Taylor Swift has also missed the event for the eighth consecutive year, with the reason cited as her “jam-packed” schedule for The Eras Tour set to kick off in France on May 9th.
