The knot pattern extends back to the late Roman Empire and later gained popularity in Celtic art and Christian imagery, while its exact origins are a matter of considerable contention. The Trinity knot has many connotations for different people today; among Welsh, Irish, and Scottish people, it represents their pride in their ancient Irish tradition.
