Selena Gomez has achieved a significant milestone as the most Emmy-nominated Latina producer in the “Best Comedy Series” category for her role as an executive producer on Hulu’s “Only Murders In The Building.” Additionally, Gomez received her first Emmy nomination for acting, specifically for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, recognizing her portrayal of Mabel in the show. Previously, Gomez was nominated twice as part of the producing team for Outstanding Comedy Series for “Only Murders in the Building” in 2022 and 2023, alongside Martin Short, Dan Fogelman, and Jess Rosenthal.
“Only Murders In The Building,” created by John Hoffman and Steve Martin, revolves around three strangers—Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez)—who share an obsession with true crime. Each season, they dive into new murder mysteries.
In Season 4, the trio will grapple with the aftermath of the shocking events involving Charles’ stunt double and friend Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) from Season 3. As they investigate whether Sazz or Charles was the target, their journey takes them to Los Angeles, where a Hollywood studio is preparing a film based on their “Only Murders” podcast. Returning to New York, they explore deeper into the lives of the residents in the West Tower of the Arconia building, uncovering even more twists.
Last year also saw significant breakthroughs for Latino actors, including Jenna Ortega from “Wednesday,” who became the third Latina ever nominated in the Lead Actress Comedy Series category. This historic achievement follows Rita Moreno in 1983 for ABC’s “9 to 5” and America Ferrera for “Ugly Betty” in 2007. Ortega, at 20 years old, is also the second youngest nominee in the Lead Comedy Actress category, after Patty Duke, who was 17 in 1964 for “The Patty Duke Show.”
