Taylor Swift is reportedly facing over $3,000 in fines and has accumulated a remarkable 32 sanitation tickets for issues related to trash outside her Manhattan townhouse, according to the New York Post.
Swift’s residence is a townhouse on Franklin Street in Tribeca, a high-end Manhattan neighborhood, which she bought in 2017 for $18 million. As the owner, she is responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in front of her property but has been cited for issues such as “failing to clean the area,” having a “dirty sidewalk,” and “improperly disposing of garbage.”
The summonses detail various types of trash, including “piles of newspapers, bottles and cardboard; napkins and wrappers; and ‘scattered ashtray contents’ and a cigarette carton.”
Swift, who has transformed the townhouse into a private entrance for her penthouse next door, where she owns three units, has reportedly contested some of these fines, successfully reversing $200 on appeal. The tickets have been issued between January 2018 and January 2023, with the number of violations reportedly being the highest on the block. This has led some fans to believe that Swift might be unfairly targeted.
A local dog walker suggested that Swift seems indifferent to the trash, implying her focus is more on her “multi-million dollar tour.” Conversely, another fan, Christine O’Connor, argued that fans and paparazzi could be responsible for the litter, noting that Swift herself does not smoke.
Swift’s former landlord at Cornelia Street, David Aldea, praised her as a “perfect tenant” with only positive remarks about her. Despite these fines, it’s unlikely Swift will struggle financially, as her Eras world tour is projected to exceed $1 billion in revenue, a milestone no artist has previously reached.
According to Fortune, Swift is currently earning over $13 million per night in ticket sales, making her the “top-grossing artist in the world.” She recently performed in Cincinnati and shared her excitement on social media, expressing her love for the city and anticipation for the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on July 7.
The Eras tour, which began in March, is her first since 2018 and celebrates her entire discography. The tour features a dynamic set list with surprise songs, and Swift has playfully addressed the unpredictability of the set list during her Arlington, Texas stop.
The tour will continue with two performances at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on July 7 and 8.
