Dwayne Johnson was back at work on the set of his latest project in Vancouver, Canada. The 52-year-old actor, known for his role in Moana 2, showcased his impressive physique while dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts on Saturday.
For his role as former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Kerr in the biopic The Smashing Machine, Johnson sported a dark wig, as the real Kerr is 55 years old. Despite wearing a black knee brace, which seemed to be part of his costume, Johnson’s focus was on the role.
Earlier in the week, Johnson informed his fans on social media about an elbow injury he sustained. He humorously noted, “Any time your film is called The Smashing Machine, well you’re gonna get smashed up,” revealing an injury area at the joint the size of a small melon, likened to a cantaloupe.
While seeking advice from his fans on treating the injury, Johnson opted for some of his Teremana tequila for pain relief. After a doctor’s evaluation, he reported there was “no extensive tissue damage,” and the “Ruptured bursa sac will eventually heal.”
In The Smashing Machine, Johnson stars alongside Emily Blunt and Oleksandr Usyk. Blunt, 41, plays Dawn Staples, Kerr’s ex-wife, while Usyk, 37, takes on the role of MMA legend Igor Vovchanchyn. Kerr is also serving as a consultant for the film.
Johnson and director Benny Safdie are producing the project through Seven Bucks Productions, which secured the film rights in 2019. Blunt and Johnson previously worked together on the 2021 Disney film Jungle Cruise. In a Howard Stern interview, Blunt shared that she gave Johnson a signed Raiders of the Lost Ark poster as a parting gift, and he has since returned the favor with various gifts, including “endless tequila.”
The Smashing Machine is slated for a December release, with hopes that it will reach theaters in time for award season consideration.
