Since 2014, Rihanna has made The Century, one of Los Angeles’ most expensive and prestigious residential buildings, her primary residence. However, with a new baby and a second child on the way, along with employees and her ever-present entourage, she’s feeling a bit cramped in her three-bedroom, 3,500 square foot home.
To address this issue, the Barbadian superstar spent $21 million to acquire one of The Century’s largest residences: a penthouse that occupies the entire 40th floor of the building. This expansive living space, exceeding 9,000 square feet, features numerous custom details and stunning views, making it ideal for any A-lister.
The apartment was sold by billionaire Nick Molnar, co-founder of the technology company Afterpay, who initially listed it for $28 million. However, Rihanna managed to negotiate a significant discount, likely leveraging L.A.’s mansion tax as the purchase was finalized on March 31, just one day before the new tax took effect. If the deal had closed in April, Molnar would have owed an additional $1.1 million in taxes.
Guests are immediately captivated by the sweeping wall of floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, offering views of the city skyline as they step off the private elevator into the condo’s entrance gallery. The dining area features dark brown hardwood floors that seamlessly transition into the all-white kitchen, which boasts marble countertops, two islands, and high-end appliances.
The property also includes a soundproof movie theater with velour couches, as well as a master suite that features a curved bedroom, two custom closets, two bathrooms, and a separate lounge. Perhaps the most impressive aspects of the condo are its four distinct outdoor terraces, facing north, south, east, and west, providing panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, Downtown Los Angeles skyscrapers, the San Gabriel Mountains, and even snow-capped Mount Baldy.
The monthly HOA fee for Rihanna’s penthouse is a substantial $8,814, but it grants her access to the building’s premium amenities, including four designated parking spaces in the garage, a 24-hour concierge, security personnel, an outdoor pool, lush gardens, on-site storage, a restaurant, conference rooms, and much more.
