Linkin Park has resumed their activities.
Seven years after Chester Bennington’s suicide in 2017, founding member Mike Shinoda discussed the rockers’ “new chapter” with lead singer Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara as the band began its From Zero World Tour at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 10.
When 47-year-old Shinoda asked the audience if they had ever seen a Linkin Park performance before, the first-time attendees gave a huge cheer. He stated on stage, “I mean, that’s part of why we’re back out here,” in a video that the venue posted to social media. “We are thrilled to be back out here.”
Adding, “It is not about erasing the past,” “It is about starting this new chapter into the future and coming out here for each and every one of you.”
We enjoy writing this music and performing for you guys, therefore we’re f—ing thrilled about the new album. Thank you so much, everyone; we had a great evening with you. “Hopefully, we’ll see you soon,” Shinoda said.
Shinoda, Armstrong, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, and Colin Brittain are now in Linkin Park’s lineup. They performed a set that included hits and songs from their new album, From Zero, which will be released on November 15.
On September 5, the band announced their comeback with the addition of Armstrong and Brittain. A press release claims that for the past few years, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell, and Hahn have resumed their social interactions.
The bandmates chose to let additional musicians into the mix in order to strengthen their friendship and artistic connection, rather than “trying to restart the band,” until they discovered Armstrong and Brittain.
“We’re weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones,” Shinoda said, adding that Linkin Park feels “really empowered with this new lineup.”
In a series of since-expired Instagram Story posts, Jamie, Bennington’s son, voiced his disdain of the band’s hiring of Armstrong a few days after the announcement.
According to Variety, Jamie criticized Armstrong’s affiliation with the Church of Scientology and her backing of Danny Masterson, who was found guilty of two rape charges and given a 30-year to life sentence in 2023.
He further asserted that Linkin Park “betrayed the trust” of followers who “believed you to be the bigger better person” and “failed to address the concerns of their diverse fan base.” to bring about the change. since it was your intention, as you promised us.”
Jamie referred to the group as “tone deaf” and claimed that Shinoda “quietly erased my fatherβs life and legacy in real timeβ¦ during international suicide prevention month.”
